Getting interested in the local

For about two years now I have been involved in a local Niagara Falls group that has gone through numerous names but is now officially Niagara Rises. We are hoping to start a grassroots movement for the improvement of the city of Niagara Falls, NY.
Why I joined the group was that I was tired of complaining about the way things were and felt it was time that I stopped the talking and started with the actions.
We have started planning for the war of 1812 bicentennial (yes it is a few years off) because we all felt like the bicentennial of the county was done very haphazardly. How many of us even knew about it before it was mentioned in one of our meetings?!
I also love the idea of doing a Walk of Fame but am afraid that this will get bogged down in the bureaucracy.
I think that one of the greatest things about our group is that we are more than happy to have many different ideas and try to see what will work.
I happen to work in the tourist industry and feel that anything that can be accomplished will help.
